CLEARWATER, FL (June 26, 2008) Achieva Credit Union recently awarded $15,000 in college scholarships to six finalists of the 2008 Achieva Scholarship Program. Argenis Burgos, Auna Gould, Madison Honig, Natalie Hyman, Tara Larson, and Michelle Reilly received $2,500 each, to help further their college education. Mr. Gary Regoli, Achieva’s President and CEO, awarded the scholarships Thursday, June 19, 2008 at a luncheon held in their honor. Regoli stated: “Achieva has a very rich heritage within the educational community. We are truly proud to award these scholarships, and wish all of the winners much success in their future endeavors.”
Achieva received over 100 applications to the Scholarship Program. To be considered, each student submitted a detailed application, a school transcript, two letters of recommendation from teachers, counselors or school administrators, and a 250-500 word essay. Essay topics were: [1] Describe what Achieva Credit Union means to me, or [2] Describe how an Achieva Scholarship would help me achieve my goals. Achieva’s Scholarship Committee narrowed the pool of 100+ applicants to 14 semi-finalists, and the Board of Directors selected the six finalists. All agreed that the essay component was the deciding factor in this challenging process.
